A tradition unlike any other is looking very familiar as Scottie Scheffler remains the betting favorite by the updated and live Masters odds entering Friday's Round 2 at Augusta National Golf Course.

Scheffler sits just three strokes back of 18-hole leader Justin Rose (-7) after firing his own opening round of 68 on Thursday. The winner of two of the past three green jackets retains his status as the consensus betting favorite by the updated Masters odds.

Ludvig Aberg is second on the live Masters oddsboard following his impressive runner-up finish last year. Rose is now third by the odds to win the green jacket at +700, after being listed around +10000 prior to the tournament.

Rory McIlroy, who was 4-under par beginning his 15th hole of the day, fell back to even par over his closing four holes and is +1200 by the lastest odds from our Masters betting sites.

Scheffler closed at around +450 odds prior to Round 1, and a strong opening round of 4-under par, 68, was enough to cut those odds nearly in half. The two-time Masters champ made putts of 62- and 42-feet and averaged 2.90 strokes gained: putting on the day.

Though not always a repeatable feat, Scheffler has firmly established his dominance of Augusta National's greens. His 2.68 SG: tee-to-green is also inspiring heading into Round 2.

Rose cashed first-round leader bets around 66/1 on Thursday. He led the 95-man field with 5.26 SG: putting on the day, but his 2.72 SG: approach and 3.31 SG: tee-to-green are a little more likely to keep him in contention over the next three rounds.

Rose was the runner-up in last year's British Open, and the 44-year-old is looking the part of a major competitor once again.

🏌️ What happened to Rory McIlroy?

McIlroy seemed to be in cruise control through a bogey-free 14 holes. That all changed with a double bogey on No. 15, and another on No. 17. He'll enter Friday at even par, and seven strokes back of Rose's lead.

Negative 1.11 strokes gained: putting and 0.87 strokes lost around the green cost McIlroy from being in an even better position entering the 15th hole and contributed to his downfall. He gained 1.98 strokes on approach, 1.59 strokes off the tee, and 2.69 strokes from tee to green on an otherwise strong day for the Northern Irishman.

McIlroy will tee off at 9:59 a.m. ET on Friday, alongside Ludvig Aberg (-4) and Akshay Bhatia (-2) once again. The greens should be slightly softer with some overnight and early-morning rain in the forecast for Augusta, Ga. I wouldn't bet him again as the odds didn't increase enough.

With the likes of Scheffler, Ludvig Aberg, and Bryson DeChambeau ahead of him on the oddsboard, he'll need to make up his self-created gap over the next three days, and I don't expect the odds to move much regardless of what he does Friday.

Aberg is tied with Scheffler and Canadian Corey Conners after 18 holes at 4-under. He had just one bogey on the day while birdieing three of his last six holes while McIlroy went in the opposite direction.

The Swedish superstar gained 1.93 strokes around the greens on Thursday and led the field with 2.08 SG: off-the-tee and 5.26 SG: tee-to-green. His 0.32 SG: putting can improve over the weekend to help him secure the green jacket on Sunday.
