Who Will Draft Ashton Jeanty?

Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty is likely to be the first rookie selected in most fantasy football drafts over the next few months, and he's expected to open as one of the Offensive Rookie of the Year odds favorites.

But who will draft Ashton Jeanty? The Las Vegas Raiders have been the favorites by the NFL draft odds to select the Heisman runner-up for weeks. However, another team has been surging up the board and has become a popular landing spot for Jeanty ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday.

๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ Las Vegas Raiders (+120)

The odds being this short for a team holding the No. 6 pick in the NFL draft to select a specific player really speak to how few elite prospects there are in this year's class.

Jeanty is a top-five talent in this draft without a doubt, and there are very few players even worthy of a top-10 selection this year. That's why it's hard to fathom Jeanty falling too far down the board, even while playing at a historically devalued position.

It's easy to connect him to the Raiders, too, with Pete Carroll running the show and the team fixing its QB issue by trading for Geno Smith. Vegas also happens to have a steady enough offensive line situation that it could justify taking Jeanty over either Will Campbell or Armand Membou, especially if new general manager John Spytek is comfortable with second-year right tackle DJ Glaze.

But for as perfect as Carroll landing his new Marshawn Lynch would be, there are too many factors working against the Raiders to justify these odds, which pay just a $12 profit on a $10 winning bet.

First of all, Carroll could just as easily want Georgia's Jalon Walker as his defensive chess piece, like he had with Bruce Irvin. Or maybe Spytek and part-owner Tom Brady love Mason Graham, who won a national title at their alma mater Michigan.

Both offensive line and front seven are needs for the Raiders, and both could be addressed with pick No. 6. There's also the not-so-little issue of the noise around the Jacksonville Jaguars potentially wanting Jeanty at pick No. 5.

Since the rumor around Jacksonville's infatuation with Jeanty started, the Raiders odds have begun lengthening after initially being minus-money.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Best bet to draft Ashton Jeanty

๐Ÿ† Jacksonville Jaguars (+175)

For the last week or so, the Jaguars have been connected to Jeanty. And we've seen their odds shorten dramatically as a result.

At first, it may be difficult to understand why they'd be interested after investing two top-90 picks in running backs (Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby) in the last four drafts. But there's a new regime calling the shots in Jacksonville, and they may want to ensure Trevor Lawrence gets as much help as possible.

General manager James Gladstone and head coach Liam Coen - both of whom were with the Los Angeles Rams when Todd Gurley carried the team to the Super Bowl - would be getting a Maurice Jones-Drew type of back in Jeanty.

He would instantly elevate an offense that was seventh-last in the NFL in rushing yards last season, and he would give the team one of the few blue-chip prospects in the class.

It doesn't hurt that running backs appear to be back in style now, too, after what Saquon Barkley just did for the Philadelphia Eagles. While Jeanty isn't quite the same prospect as Barkley coming out of Penn State, he's not far off after leading the FBS in rushing yards after contact (1,970) and forced missed tackles (152) last season, per PFF.

Between the Jaguars holding the pick before the Raiders, hiring an offensive head coach, and playing in a division that's wide open, it's not hard to imagine Jacksonville seeing Jeanty as the difference in making a playoff push in the AFC South.

This landing spot makes the most sense, but I'd also keep my eye on the Chicago Bears (+450) moving up to get Ben Johnson his Jahmyr Gibbs.

๐ŸŽฏ Best long shot to draft Ashton Jeanty

โญ๏ธ Dallas Cowboys (+2000)

If you're looking for a team currently slotted to pick outside the top 10 with longer than +1500 odds, it's hard to find a better long shot bet than the Dallas Cowboys.

You just know Jerry Jones wouldn't let Stephen Jones and Will McClay pass on a running back like Jeanty if he fell to No. 12 - the All-American would get America's Team back on the map after a bumpy season.

The last time Dallas took a running back in the first round, Ezekiel Elliott helped Dallas become a consistent contender in the NFC East while twice leading the NFL in rushing yards. Jeanty could have that same impact and help get the most out of Dak Prescott as he ages.

And while the Cowboys desperately need wide receiver help, Jeanty can also be a huge factor in the passing game like a pint-sized Alvin Kamara.

This past season, he was too busy putting the Broncos' offense on his back and carrying his team to a College Football Playoff berth to show off his receiving chops, but Jeanty is one of the best pass-catching backs in recent memory.

Two seasons ago at Boise State, Jeanty led the nation in receiving yards among running backs (578) and was No. 2 in both YAC per reception (14.1) and yards per route run (3.19).

It's not crazy to think Jones and Co. would be willing to move up past the Bears into the top 10 to select a potential perennial Pro Bowler like Jeanty. If they're itching to make a splashy move, a $10 winning bet on the Cowboys landing the draft's top running back pays a $200 profit.
